Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

An important representative stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
