Whenever a significant prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category that year
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
